Module 1 Part 2 - 21st Century Instruction Discussion Forum
I currently work in the school that I graduated from a little over 20 years ago. I remember my senior year we got an electric typewriter in the business room. Everyone had to rotate through to be able to type on it. The other typewriters were the manual ones that took a lot of finger strength to use properly. That room is now a computer lab. There are 25 computers in the room that students use daily. These computers have almost reached their life expectency and we are looking at the daunting task of what to replace them with. There are laptop stations in every high school core classroom that are used daily. When I was in school we did have one computer class in basic programming. I think the physical make-up of many classrooms is different. Many classes have students sitting in groups or circles instead of straight rows. Students are many times up and moving working on cooperative projects. Each teacher has a Smart Board in their room that they incorperate into their daily lessons. If I need to cover an elementary class, they are quick to tell me what I am doing wrong on the Smart Board. Our first graders did a penguin project with a teacher from the Ann Arbor Michigan Hands on museum last week. I agree with an earlier comment about a lack of respect today. I am amazed by the way students talk to teachers and their parents.
My discussion post on 21st Century Instruction represents the goal of apply technology to develop students' higher order thinking skills and creativity.
This post represents this indicator because I was able to identify activities that are currently happening in our school district to enhance student creativity and higher order thinking skills.
My Future Learning Goals related to this standard (Now What?)
I will:
start a review of the curriculum to encourage more technology projects that move student into higher ordering thinking and creativity.
Teaching, Learning, and the Curriculum.
